Based out of Lansing, the State Bar of Michigan was established in 1935 and boasts over 45,000 judges and practicing attorneys. The organization’s goal is to promote the law profession, build the public's perception of the legal system, and improve the overall justice administration. The organization also offers their services to low-income families and nonprofit agencies who serve those in need.
One of the latest initiatives created by the State Bar of Michigan recognizes Michigan attorneys who remain committed to pro bono service. Called A Lawyer Helps Pro Bono Honor Roll, this initiative identifies lawyers who give 30 or more hours of pro bono legal service during a calendar year. There are other designations for firms and corporations that provide pro bono service for 30, 50, or 100 or more hours.
